Oxygen Tank Cited As Possible Cause For Qantas Boeing 747 Incident

Monday 28th July 2008

Theories as to the cause of a sudden decompression aboard a Qantas Boeing 747 last week have taken on a twist as an oxygen tank that should have been aboard the aircraft is missing. In addition to this fragments of the tank have been found inside the aircraft lending support to the theory that the tank may have exploded causing the hole that is clearly visible in the side of the aircraft.

Officials looking into the case have asked for caution however as this by no means can be onfirmed as the cause of the incident until examined further. Several passenger onboad the aircraft report hearing a loud bang followed by decompression of the cabin.

After the discovery of the fragments of oxygen tank Qantas has been told to examine all the oxygen bottles onboard to ensure they are safe and cannot explode during flight. Currently terrorism seems to be being ruled out as sniffer dogs brought in to examine the aircraft has turned up no evidence of any residue of bombs or explosives.

Any developments on the causes of the incident will be covered here on Compare Airport Parking.
