British Airways Undertake Alternative Fuel Study
Thursday 24th July 2008British Airways are in the process of completing an alternative fuel study and have said that they will make their results available to the public, hopefully making the process of finding alternatives to current jet fuel occur faster.
The research by British Airways is being completed in conjunction with Rolls-Royce who are operating a scientific test programme that will examine various alternatives to conventional jet fuel. The process will involve four alternative fuel options being selected as the most promising and each supplier of these fuels will be requested to supply 60,000 litres of their fuel which will be tested on an RB211 engine that is located at the Rolls Royce Derby base. The engine will be given a variety of different simulations of speed and conditions to evaluate which fuel gives the best performance and economy.
