Ryanair To Trial In-Flight Mobile Phone Use

Thursday 24th July 2008

Despite strong public opinion against the use of mobile phones in airliners, budget airline Ryanair seem to be pushing ahead with trials of a system that will allow their use on flights.

The new system will be trialled despite a staggering 86% of British travellers opposed to the introduction of mobile phones on flights according to a survey conducted by Tripadvisor. Ryanair are not the only airline beginning to trial mobile phone technology on aircraft as it has been reported that Bmi, Emirates, Air France and SAS are also evaluating their own systems.

Ryanair will begin the new tests by the midle of August and if all is successful then they hope to have all their aircraft using the system within six months. In early 2008 the European Comission allowed the use of mobile phones on aircraft with April seeing the telecoms watchdog Ofcom also approve the proposal.

The UK appear to be pushing the idea of mbile phones on aircraft more than the American Authorities who are currently blocking the idea.
