Heathrow Concorde Model Replaced By Airbus A380

Wednesday 23rd July 2008

For many years arrival at Heathrow meant witnessing a model Concorde at the roundabout as you approached.

Today saw its replacement finally launched at the roundabout where Concorde used to reside - its replacement? A huge one-third-scale Emirates Airbus A380. The change represents a different future of commercial aviation - one the airport is trying to make passengers aware of, these new changes represents aircraft that are cleaner and quieter, despite arguably not being as visually impressive as Concorde.

The huge model Airbus A380 weighs in at a massive 45 tonnes and was delivered to the airport in ten different parts. The aircraft was constructed by teams of engineers and was finished just in time for todays launch of the model. Despite the impressive form the new model is, many will miss the iconic British Airways Concorde that used to adorn the roundabout.
