Stansted Airport Passenger Application Delayed

Friday 18th July 2008

A government decision regarding growth of Stansted Airport and if it can expand beyond its 25 million passengers every year has been delayed.

Originally a decision was expected from the government at Christmas 2007 after a planning enquiry ended in the October however this did not occur. The delay will now extend to at least September 2008 after a joint letter from Ruth Kelly (Transport Secretary) and Hazel Blears (Communities Secretary) which has led the SSE (Stop Stansted Expansion) to state that they expect the decision to be at least eleven months after the pubic enquiry ended.
