Ryanair Cut-Backs From Dublin Airport
Wednesday 16th July 2008Low cost airline Ryanair are to reduce passenger numbers from Dublin Airport by approximately half a million, announced Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary.
The reasons for the cut-backs have been blamed on the rising price of oil and equates to a reduction of four aircraft compared to the same time in 2007, meaning only 18 Ryanair aircraft will be operating from the region. The cut-backs will extend to Stansted Airport with flights from Ryanair being reduced by 14% with flight to Leeds Bradford Airport being reduced by an even larger 31%. Spaking about the flight reductions Mr. O'Leary said;
"We regret this significant capacity reduction at Dublin Airport this winter. It will be the first time for many years that Ryanair has reduced capacity at Dublin Airport. However, the combination of Dublin’s high costs (second most expensive base Ryanair operates to), unjustified cost increases (up 40% in the last 4 years) and a hopeless Aviation Regulator who has most recently rubberstamped doubling charging for check-in desks and check-in kiosks, makes it more profitable for Ryanair to ground these aircraft rather than fly them at Dublin Airport this Winter."
