New Rescue Boat Launched To Serve Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Tuesday 15th July 2008

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has launched a rescue boat specifically to deal with any aircraft that could fall short of the runway and potentially land in the River Mersey.

The brand new boat that has been launched by Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service will incorporate several features such as slide rafts that allow the craft to run fast on water and the boat is also able to run on mud flats due to novel sleds making the craft very adaptable for varying conditions. The first aid facilities are good onboard the ship as members of the boats crew will be able to treat and casualties.

The new boat will allow the transfer of up to 60 passengers in the event of an aircraft coming down in the area and the trials that the boat has gone through has shown that it is more than capable of the task. The electronic systems aboard the boat will also allow the crew to conduct advanced searches if so needed.
