New Air Traffic Controller Must Have Perfect Eyesight But Can Have A BRAILLE Application Form

Thursday 10th July 2008

St. Mary's Airport on the Isles of Scilly have been criticised after advertising for a brand new air traffic controller stipulating that they must have 20/20 vision - however the application was available in Braille.

The airport have defended their actions by saying that they were simply abiding by equal opportunity guidelines but the requirements for the job would be 20/20 vision, from this it can be concluded that a person who was blind or partially sighted would not have a chance of obtaining the job.

The salary for the new job will be between £34,000 and £36,000 and will mean that the total number of air traffic controllers at the airport will then number four. Despite the contradiction of the advert seemingly highly farcical the airport has to be acknowledged that despite the fear of a media backlash for such a thing they have still ensured that the effort for equal opportunities has been made.
