Northwest Airlines Make Staff Cutback
Thursday 10th July 2008Northwest Airlines who are to be purchased by Delta Airlines are to cut 2,500 employees as the price of aviation fuel continues to rise.
In total there are 31,000 Northwest Airlines employees based at Eagan, Minnesota and the cutback in the workforce will represent some 8.1% of the workforce. The cut in workforce comes at a time when the US airlines are parking approximately 400 aircraft due to surging oil prices that have risen some 86% in the last year.
The current climate amongst US Airlines is one for cut-backs, and many see the current airlines are racing to see who can cut back the most whilst still making significant profit. With no rest in sight for the increase in oil prices, this appears to be a worrying trend for many aviation sector workers in the coming months.
