New Measures For Preventing Bird Strikes At Bristol Airport

Bird strikes can be an issue at airports and Bristol Airport are attempting to tackle the problem with a brand new lawn mower that needs to be pulled by a six tonne tractor!

The general upkeeping of an airport is not something that many consider when visiting, however even the length of the grass can make a difference between life and death for passengers. Very short grass attracts birds and that is a major hazard for any aircraft. A bird being sucked into an airliner engine is a major incident, it rarely results in a crash however is a major incident and often requires a mayday call from the pilot. The new mower will ensure that the grass is cut to a length that prevents birds from sitting on the grass and causing a hazard to aircraft as well as themselves!

The brand new mower is certainly impressive as it can cut an area the size of a football pitch is seven seconds!
