Exeter Airport Produce Plan Of Airport Future

Wednesday 2nd July 2008

Exeter International Airport have produced a draft master plan of the future of the airport. The plan shows how facilities will be improved as well as jobs opportunities increasing and flights overseas gaining links.

The brand new plan was created by bosses of Exeter Airport and have now been released in order for public consultation on the matter. The reason for the expansion is due to predictions of 3.4 million passengers at the airport by 2030. This rise in numbers will have an effect on aircraft movements with 38,000 movements predicted by the year 2030, up from 14,000 currently.

Exeter Airport are looking at spending around £100 million to enhance the facilities at the airport as with a passenger number increase the current facilities would be in need of expansion and enhancement to handle the increase. Interestingly there are no plans for an additional runway at the airport with extensions planned for the current Exeter Airport runway to handle larger and more frequent aircraft movements.

The levels of employment which are currently at 2,150 will potentially swell to 5,400 by 2030 thus increasing the contribution of the airport to the local economy which could be as highly as £264 million.
