Terrorism Expert Sounds UK Airport Security Warning
Friday 27th June 2008One year on from the Glasgow Airport terror attacks a security consultant Chris Yates, has sounded a warning that the UK's airports are still weak in some areas despite measures being put in place to tackle potential terrorist threats.
The Glasgow terror attacks woke many in the indstry up to the ease at which an attack on a terminal building could be made and how improvement to prevent a similar incident needed to be made. Two men were arrested after the failed attempt to drive a jeep through the airport terminal building front at Glasgow Airport in which Kefeel Ahmed, 27 died from 90% burns and Bilal Abdullah, 28 was arrested and charged with conspiracy to cause explosions.
Since the incident Glasgow Airport have banned the dropping of passengers from the front of the airport terminal as well as installing bomb-proof glass on the windows at the front of the terminal. However Mr. Yates has highlighted that there are still weak points at UK airports and that a terrorist will always look for the weakest link of a chain that can be exploited.
The comments are sure to be a stark reminder to both Glasgow Airport and others in the UK of the threat posed by terrorism and it will be interesting to see the developments over the next couple of years that will indicate just what measures are being put in place to tackle what appears to be a growing problem.
