Manchester Airport Celebrates Award
Thursday 26th June 2008Manchester Airport has scooped the Best Airport Award of 2008 that is awarded by the Airports Council International Europe.
Manchester Airport was the winner from the category that deals with 10-25 million passengers and was held in Paris under the banner of the 4th Annual ACI Europe Best Airport Awards. The airport not only triumphed in airline services that led to more and more airlines utilising the airports services but its approach to tackling climate change by comitting itself to ensuring the airport is carbon neutral by 2015. In addition to these positive moves the airport also drew praise for its community relations programme and sponsorship of the arts.
The praise for Manchester Airport did not end there however, as many other points were highlighted as to why the airport was given its award. The judges made special mention of the customer service at the airport, especially the introduction of the Customer First Programme that ensures passengers experience a service that should be seamless and hassle-free. The judges were also impressed with the handling of security changes and the airports acquisition of a brand new security area used for screening at a cost of £10 million, as well as spending £2.2 million on brand new x-ray machines.
The awards ceremony was preceeded by a conference that discussed the current challenges that all European airports are facing, and tackled many subjects including security, finance, environment and airport capacity. After receiving the award the Managing Director of Manchester Airport Andrew Cornish said,

Manchester Airport puts customers first and that includes both airlines and our passengers. We firmly believe that our approach is the right way to run an airport of the future and we’re delighted that the efforts of everyone here at Manchester Airport have been recognised in this award.”
