British Airways To Sell Air Mauritius Share

Wednesday 25th June 2008

British Airways are to sell their 10.5% share in the airline Air Mauritius for a reported £3.2 million.

The sale is to the Mauritian Government and will be for its 3.84% share in Air Mauritius Ltd as well as its 13.24% share in the Air Mauritius Holding Company Limited. The sale will be to current existing shareholders. The sale comes after more than thirty years of share ownership in the airline by British Airways. The shares in Air Mauritius have been held since 1973 by the airline.

The British Airways general manager Robbie Baird who is also the representative for the Air Mauritius board said; "Our investment in Air Mauritius no longer forms a core part of our business strategy. We invested in the airline when it was a start-up airline. It is now a successful carrier, operating to the highest standards and no longer requires our involvement and support. I'm pleased to say that this sale has been done with the full co-operation of Air Mauritius and the Mauritian government".
