Gatwick Airport Celebrates First Place Security Position
Thursday 12th June 2008Gatwick Airport is celebrating today after it was named the best for queuing times amongst Europe's busiest ten airports.
The results came from a passenger survey that was comissioned by the Airports Council International (ACI) that is very highly regarded in the transport community. The airports it was compared to were Heathrow Airport, Schiphol Amsterdam, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Copenhagen, Madrid, Frankfurt, Rome and Manchester.
Gatwick management are said to be very happy at the news and have praised their staff for achieving the first placed position. This time last year the airport was way down in seventh place so to turn around the results to first place in 2008 is a major achievement for the airport as a whole.
The first place is believed to be due in-part to recent development in the security areas that has seen 650 extra security staff employed at the Gatwick as well as the opening of seven extra security lanes. They deal with 35 million passengers every year.
