Rare Montagu Harrier Spotted At Stansted

Tuesday 10th June 2008

You are setting off for a warm and sunny country from Stansted Airport. You hope to enjoy the sun and see unusual wildlife renowned for the sunnier climates. However as you taxi to the runway a glance out of the window spots Monty the Montagu Harrier and makes you think just how warm the UK can be!

The rare bird of prey decided that it was time for a holiday herself and settled down on the north side of the airport by the long grass that were near the balancing ponds by the private jet terminal. To ensure identification of the bird was correct the airport called in Mark Thomas from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) who confirmed that it was indeed the Montagu Harrier. He said, "It's amazing to see this type of bird at this location, especially with all the activity around her."

How long Monty decides to stay is a mystery however having been there for a week now she seems in no hurry to leave and appears to be enjoying her stay.
