United Airlines To Ground 100 Aircraft and Cut 1600 Jobs
Thursday 5th June 2008The struggle continues due to oil prices with the announcement from United Airlines that they are to ground at minimum 100 aircraft and cut around 1,600 jobs. They have also announced that they are to close their low cost subsiduary Ted.
The current fuel price crisis means that the airline has what they call a "$3 billion challenge to overcome". The aircraft to be grounded will be 94 Boeing 737's and 6 Boeing 747's. These aircraft are recognised as not particually fuel efficient and this is part of the reason for their grounding.
