Dublin Airport Radar Problems Create Delays
Thursday 5th June 2008Problems at Dublin Airport overnight with their radar system has meant delays today affecting a number of flights with delays of up to 45 minutes on some flights.
Aer Lingus A321 at Dublin Airport
Aer Lingus routes have been one of the worst affected with transatlantic flights delayed as well as routes run by Continental and Aer Arann. Engineers are currently inspecting the radar equipment to attempt to identify what the problem was that shut part of the radar system down for a period of approximately half an hour. The investigation into the radar problems is also limiting flights into and from the airport whilst the engineers examine the equipment.
Dublin Airport usually has 50 aircraft fly to and from the airport every hour which is now limited to 32 every hour while investigations take place. It is hoped that regular services will be up and running by the end of today (Thursday). The IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) have advised passengers that will be flying from the airport to check ahead before leaving home to see if their flight is to be suffering delays.
