Engineers Propose Heathrow Rail Link

Engineering experts are considering the possibility of a rail network to run from the Channel Tunnel to Heathrow Airport.

The plan is an ambitious one, however the rail link is a very real possibility and would inject new life into Heathrow Airport that is currently struggling to deal with its traffic and reputation that was damaged recently with the fiasco at Terminal Five. The new proposal means that Heathrow Airport could be turned into a world-class airport, something it really needs to keep pace with other similar airport around the world.

The plan has been proposed by engineering group Arup and would cut down the quantity of cars bearing down on the airport each day. This would please environmental activists and provide a welcome break for Heathrow Airport as well as cutting down journey times for passengers arriving by car.

The new route would serve cities such as Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford and Cardiff, all providing direct services to Heathrow Airport. If the plans are accepted the current Eurostar service would be extended that at the moment terminates at London Kings Cross. The extension plans would mean a new 12 platform station would be built as well as a 24km high speed rail link with terminal size and baggage facilities being enlarged.
