Emergency Landing At Bristol Airport Causes Delay
Friday 23rd May 2008There has been a small delay experienced at Bristol Airport after a light aircraft had to make an emergency landing.
Flights to the airport had to be diverted and delayed in order to allow the aircraft to land. The aircraft involved was a four-seater Piper Cherokee that had taken off from Bristol Flying Centre that encountered problems soon after take-off. There were no injuries due to the incident however the fire brigade had to be called and the aircraft was left at the end of the runway for approximately an hour.
In total three flights had to be diverted - these were two Air South West flights from Leeds Bradford Airport and Manchester that were re-directed to Plymouth and an Easyjet service from Glasgow that was re-routed to Cardiff. There were several other delays however with departures to Amsterdam, Inverness, Newquay, Jersey, Barcelona and Dublin
The runway was expected to be operational again by 11am this morning. There has been no comment as of yet from Bristol Flying Centre where the light aircraft took off from.
