Champions League Fans Sent To Seperate Airports

Wednesday 21st May 2008

Police forces in Moscow are bracing themselves for potential trouble this evening as 40,000 Manchester United and Chelsea fans descend upon the Capital for the Champions League Final.

15,000 police officers and troops have been brough in to deal with potential clashes after the match and each team has been allocated its own airport to avoid confrontation between fans. All Chelsea fans have been arriving at Vnukovo Airport whilst United fans are landing at Domodedovo that is on the opposite side of the city.

When in the stadium 6,000 soldiers and police officers will keep fans seperate. With the match not due to begin until 10.45pm the fear is that many fans will drink all day and potentially cause trouble. The local police have already stated that they have a zero tolerance policy for trouble and if fans decide to be rowdy they will most likely be surprised with the swift and no-nonsense force that will be used in Russia. Even smoking will not be tolerated in Red Square.

It remains to be seen if the fans will behave and many hope that there will not be a repeat of the recent football riots seen in the UK.
