Protests at Luton Airport changes
Monday 12th May 2008Villagers near Luton Airport are protesting over proposed changes to the Air routes over and around the local area whcih they claim will mean more flights and noise for them.
Villages involved include Caddington and Slip End in Bedfordshire. They claim the changes will result in an aircraft flying over them every four minutes.
The National Air Traffic Service says the changes will benefit people across the region and redrawing the map will allow aircraft to avoid as many towns and villages as possible and that it will reduce by almost a fifth the number of people living under the departure flight path at Luton.
There is a consultation period. When this closes, the Civil Aviation Authority will then decide whether the changes can go ahead.
