British Airways To Possibly Merge With American Airlines
Thursday 1st May 2008A statement has been released by British Airways saying that they are looking at "exploring opportunities" with two United States Airlines.
The statement continued that, "BA is exploring opportunities for cooperation with American Airlines and Continental Airlines. Further details will be announced when appropriate." No further details were given however rumour indicated that the airline may be looking to merge with American Airlines, however currently this is just speculation. There has been a previous attempt by British Airways to merge with American Airlines, however it was unsuccesful after competition authorities on both sides of the Atlantic rejected the move.
The announcement has raised confidence with shareholders and the airlines shares rose 5% as a result of the news.
