Heathrow Airport Expansion Gains Support
Thursday 1st May 2008Those in favour of expansion at Heathrow have claimed a small victory after their arguments in favour of expansion were supported by the audience at a debate held at the Policy Exchange.
The arguments for the expansion were put forward by Tom Kelly, the BAA director of corporate communications and Colin Stanbridge, CEO London Chamber of Commerce.
Against the motion was Richard Dyer from Friends of the Earth and Tim Johnson of the Aviation Environment Federation. Several speeches were made as well as a question and answer section after which the audience votes in favour of airport expansion.. The Future Heathrow Campaign Director Lord Soley said that the audience has showed common sense in their vote after hearing both sides of the argument. He went on to say that there was a genuine risk to the economy of the UK if airport expansion did not go ahead.
