Boss Of British Airways Says Heathrow Is Damaging Economy
Thursday 1st May 2008The boss of British Airways Willie Walsh has said that Heathrow Airport is damaging the UK economy.
His remarks followed comments from Don Langford, the head of customer services of American Airlines that Heathrow Airport was one of the worst in Europe. The recent chaos at Heathrow Terminal 5 has damaged the airports reputation with baggage problems meaning thousands of travellers had their bags go missing, with some still trying to get them back.
Walsh has spoken at a conference in The Royal Albert Hall to some 3,000 people where he outlined his vision for the improvement of the London hub. He stated that the delays at Heathrow Airport could force some British businesses to re-locate abroad as they may find it hard to attract investment.
Mr Walsh has apologised to business leaders about the problems with the opening of Terminal 5 and noted the the terminal has improved in the last few weeks, and spoke with confidence about the future of the building.
Walsh also attacked Virgin Atlantic boss Richard Bransons plans for space tourism branding the ideas as "flights of fancy."
