Heathrow Terminal Five Fail To Spot Bullet
Thursday 1st May 2008Heathrow staff at Terminal 5 apparently missed a bullet a schoolboy was carrying but managed to confiscate his chocolate milkshake.

The schoolboy, Ben Thetford, 11 from Heathfield was passing through Heathrow Terminal 5 on a trip to Bulgaria when the staff failed to spot the bullet. The bullet was five inches long but despite the systems in place the bullet remained undetected but staff were concerned about the chocolate milkshake the schoolboy was carrying and confiscated it.
The bullet and shell had been found by a man wiht his metal detector near his home in Battle, they are believed to have originated from a Spitfire that was fighting over the English Channel. Ben and his father stuck the bullet and shell together in order to make the shell appear real but despite this distinctive shape it produced the staff still failed to pick it up.
The bullet was discovered as Ben returned to the UK by Bulgarian officials who confiscated the item.
