Birmingham Airport Shelve New Runway Plans Until 2030

Tuesday 4th December 2007

It has been announced today that Birmingham International Airport has shelved its plans for the construction of a second runway until at least 2030. The alternative that is to be actioned is the building of an extension to the current runway creating an extra 405 metres of tarmac.

This will allow the airport to handle larger aircraft and increase its portfolio of long-haul flights. It is hoped that the extension will increase passenger figures which have been experiencing a steady climb.
