Face Recognition Technology To Be Trialed At UK Airport

Friday 25th April 2008

State-of-the-art face recognition technology is to be trialed at some UK airports this summer in an attempt to improve security and passenger processing. If the new systems are successful they are to be rolled out to the majority of UK airports.

It is hoped that the new systems will aid in the crackdown of identity fraud and are set to also flag up innocent travellers on occasions if a match cannot be found for their faces. It is hoped that while this may be frustrating for some travellers it will still speed up the process of security at airports in the wake of increased security measure after the 9/11 attacks.

It is well known that UK border control is one of the strongest in the world, and the airport operators are hoping to make this system even better in the increased fight against global terrosism and identity fraud.
