Outrage Over Terminal 5 Insurance Claims
Thursday 24th April 2008There has been outrange from some passengers that used Heathrow Terminal 5 in the first few weeks as they have been told by their insurace companies that the use of Terminal 5 was at their own risk.
The non-payment of insurance is for passengers that purchased a single-trip policy just after Terminal 5 opened and were travelling at the time that the terminal encountered its worst problems.
Not all insurers have refused to pay out such as Insure and Go who have criticised the move by other insurance groups. So far the insurers that have failed to pay out have been Direct Line and Churchill who are owned by Royal Bank of Scotland and Tesco. They are underwritten by RBS. They were amongst the first to refuse claims. Direct LIne responded to the complaints by saying, "Just as a customer cannot contact us for flood cover once their house is under water, insurance companies cannot offer cover for T5 issues after the problems have occurred and been documented in the media.”
Moneysupermarket have advised people to still claim and if not successful they should complain to the insurance ombudsman.
