The figures that have been supplied are from BAA's holding company and show that in 2005 £29 million was spent and £38 million was spent in 2006 all building up to the application for the runway being submitted. Not only this but £100 million has also been set aside for the Voluntary Blight Schemes which allow local businesses and homes to be provided with compensation in order to soundproof or re-locate their businesses as a result of the increased noise that the runway will create.

The sums that are involved in the fighting of the new runway are also mounting up as it is estimated that the cost of the Stop Stansted Expansion group who are challenging the construction of the second runway will be as high as £200,000.
