Ali G Wannabe Orders A Cab But Gets A Cabinet

Friday 11th April 2008

A girl using the type of language that television personality Ali G is well known for has found her approach to the English language has caused her some problems.

The girl, who was in a rush, telephoned directory enquiries to request a taxi from her home in London to Bristol Airport using the cockney rhyming slang 'Joe Baxi.' When the operator explained that there was nobody of that name the teeneager replied 'it ain't a person, its a cab innit.' The operator then connected her to a local cabinet dealer believing that to be what she wanted.

Incredibly the teenager then spoke to the cabinet store and still did not understand that it was not a taxi rank even when quoted £180 for a 10am delivery. She duly left her details ready for her 'cab' in the morning. Of course at 10am the next morning as the teenager was preparing for her taxi to arrive a cabinet turned up from the store she had spoken to.

The cabinet store have since offered the teenager a refund but requested that she speakes more clearly on the telephone in future. As for her taxi - well according to the cabinet store she did ask the deliver driver for a lift to the airport!

If you do not know who Ali G is then we suggest taking a look here, or if you have had problems understanding the 'Ali G' language then the Ali G translator could prove indespensable which can be found here.
