Easyjet To Offer Licence To Sell Flights
Thursday 10th April 2008Easyjet, the low cost airline is to offer agents the opportunity to sell its flights in a change of policy.
Previously easyjet have refrained from allowing agents the opportunity to sell their flights, however the current practice of screen scraping is not a favourable situation for the airline which it hopes will cease now they have provided this opportunity. Screen scraping involves copying information from easyjet's website into specific packages that agents can then sell.
The new policy by easyjet will now hopefully end this and allow agents to sell their flights on the basis of performance and for a £10 feee per booking. Any agents that do not take up this opportunity and continue to 'screen scrape' will face possible legal action from the airline as it attempts to gain control of the flights it sells. The move also follows a boycot by some agents when the airline switched to a global distribution system and charged as a result.
It has been indicated from some agents that the charge easyjet make for the new service would be passed on to the customer, however some may elect to use easyjet's website which will require them using a credit card. It remains to be seen how popular the new service will be amongst customers and if they will choose to fly with another airline as a result of the passing on of the costs by agents
