40th Anniversary Of Monarch Airlines

Monarch Airlines, the low cost carrier, is celebrating its 40th anniversary and offered a special flight from Luton to Menorca.

Monarch has claimed that it is the longest established airline that is still trading under the same name as when it started in 1968. Monarch Airlines was born from a collabortation of Airline Engineering Ltd. and Cosmos and made its first flight (commercial) on the 5th of April 1968 that operated from Luton Airport to Madrid.

On the 5th of April passengers that were onboard the flight from Luton Airport were treated to check-in at a retro style check-in desk similar to the ones used when the airline first operated. The blast from the past did not end there as once onboard the aircraft they were served by cabin crew wearing old-style uniforms and serving cakes and champagne. The uniform was a replica of the 1968 Monarch uniform and was complete with a yellow mini-dress.
