Kelly Outlines Heathrow Airport Future

Thursday 22nd November 2007

The future of Heathrow Airport has been outlined by Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly giving the vision for a third runway and sixth terminal building. It has been clearly stated that noise and pollution levels must be kept within guidelines. The plans for the sixth terminal building are sure to be the most controversial however as it will mean the complete levelling of the village of Sipson. General feeling is that many other towns and villages will suffer as a result of the increase in noise and pollution.

The development of cleaner aircraft and engines it cited as one of the reasons for the viability of the new terminal building and runways, this will only become more relevant as older and noisier aircraft and phased out in the years to come. Heathrow Airport is widely regarded as currently running at near capacity and it is widely reported that the government recognise this and the announcement is a result of these concerns.
