BA Boss Promises That Baggage Will Be Returned Soon
Tuesday 1st April 2008
The boss of British Airways Willie Walsh has announced that British Airways are to attempt to re-unite many of their travellers with their missing luggage very soon.
He also apologised once again for the severe disruption that thousands of passengers have experienced. A spokesperson for Terminal 5 has said that a team of people were "working around the clock" to return baggage to its rightful owners.
Currently BA have 19,000 items of baggage in storage and have attempted to sort 5,000 of them to get them back to their owners. He has warned however that this may take time as the process is entirely manual. Mr. Walsh has accepted that he is to blame for the crisis however refuses to resign as he wishes to resolve the problems.
It has not been all negative however as Mr. Walsh has reported that some passengers have written to him expressing their admiration for Terminal 5 and some who have said they "loved" the experience. He went on to say, "I know the press will portray this as Heathrow chaos, but for many of those people it will have been a pleasant experience and I remain very confident that Terminal 5 will deliver. It is a fantastic facility, we can make it work. But I have to admit we got it completely wrong on day one."
Gordon Brown has also spoken about the problems at Terminal 5 saying "BA and BAA have to take responsibility and make sure that passengers can both get their baggage and flights can be restored to normal."
