Romsay's Airport Food Is Branded Plane Awful By Passengers
Friday 28th March 2008In another blow to Heathrow Terminal 5 passengers are branding Gordon Ramsay's new Terminal 5 restaurant food as poor.
A survey on www.areyoureadytoorder.co.uk shows that passengers are less than happy at the food they have been supplied with, complaining about sandwiches and steaks amongst many others. The fact that a Croque Madame ham and cheese sandwich is £9.50 will of course add to the frustration at the quality of the food many have expressed.
The reviewer of the restaurant was less than impressed with several of the dishes such as the steaks explaining that, "Ridges of fat and sinew are left in the sweaty meat because the temperature is not hot enough to get rid of them and it does not help that the steak seems to have little flavour in the first place." The fact that naked flames are not permitted in the airport building will go some way to explaining this, however with a price tag of £19 for a rib-eye steak it will not be long before there is little demand for them as word gets around. The reviewer was also less than impressed with the seafood as, "at £18 for a small strip of sea bass, it is way too expensive for budget travellers."
It was not just hot dishes that were criticised. As mentioned above the sandwiches are expensive and less than convincing in their quality. The Croque Madame sandwich was described as "an uncompromising squelch of glassy squares of lurid, cheap ham, horrid cheese and pappy bread; even if it does come flanked with epaulettes of ‘pan fried’ quail eggs to give it a faux noble bearing."
The lack of quality in some key areas seems surprising, as Ramsay himself has been critical of Heathrow Airport describing it as a "f***ing discrace." However it seems that his offering is not helping the airport improve its plummeting reputation. The reviewer on www.areyoureadytoorder.co.uk finished their article by stating, "Who will come here, to sit at the blocky little tables and eat this underwhelming food with the strange, undersized cutlery? Only Gordon Ramsay knows. In the meantime, the main problem with Plane Food is that it is a little too close to plane food for comfort."
