Virgin Atlantic Staff to be Balloted Over Strike Action

Tuesday 4th December 2007

Passengers using Heathrow Airport during the Christmas period could face severe disruption as Virgin Atlantic staff are to be balloted over strike action regarding pay. Virgin Atlantic staff claim that they earn as much as £10,000 less than other staff employed by Virgin Atlantic's competitors.

This ballot is to run at the same time as a ballot by BAA staff over the proposed closure of the pension scheme offered by the company to new members of staff. It has been announced that both ballots will be closed on the 20th of December however the risk of severe disruption is high.

If the ballot does result in a resounding 'yes' vote then the union has 28 days to take action having first given a 1 week notice period to the employer which is a lawful requirement.
