Manchester Airport Criticised Over Queues
Tuesday 18th March 2008Manchester Airport has been named as the worst for queues at security and passport control in the entire UK.
The survey that has provided these results has been put together by www.ukairportdelays.co.uk and is the culmination of surveys of passengers that have used a wide variety of UK airports.
The figures that were obtained at Manchester have indicated that on average passengers had to wait for 23 minutes at security and an even more frustrating 44 minutes when queing at passport control.
When we look at other airports such as Heathrow we can see from the results that security queues average 47 minutes but in areas such as passport control queues were fairly brief lasting only 15 minutes. Other airports that were criticised in the results were East Midlands Airport, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow for waiting times.
On the flip side of the coin are airports such as London City, Coventry, Prestwick and Glasgow who all had excellent feedback for their delays and queues, however it is important to note that in most scenarios these airports deal with significantly less passengers than big players such as Heathrow and Stansted.
Manchester Airport have hit back at the results claiming on crainsmanchesterbusiness.co.uk that “Around 89 per cent of our passengers have queued for less than eight minutes for security. Our target is 95 per cent and the airport has committed more than £20 million to building new security search areas and the recruitment of nearly 200 additional staff, to achieve it. With the current additional security restrictions applying in the UK this is a very challenging target but we are absolutely clear that ensuring the safety of our customers is our most important concern.”
