Man Runs Into Path Of Airliner At Heathrow Airport
Thursday 13th March 2008
A man has run into the path of an airliner at Heathrow Airport sparking a major security alert. Armed officers restrained the man and a controlled explosion was carried out on the rucksacks he was carrying, however reports indicate that no explosives were discovered.
The man apparently jumped over the airport perimeter fence at 2.05pm today and had to be restrained by armed officers. Emergency vehicles also responded to the alert which led to the northern runway being partly closed.

For a while only the southern runway was operational meaning that some passengers will be experiencing delays whilst the matter is dealt with. Suspicions fell on the protest group Plane Stupid who have been responsible for protests at the airport in recent weeks as well as a security breach at the Houses of Parlimet recently. However the group have denied any involvement in todays events.
Security is high at Heathrow Airport today even before the security breach as the brand new Terminal 5 is due to be opened tomorrow by the Queen. The matter is being dealt with by local Police whilst they attempt to establish what the man was doing airside and how he was able to run into the path of an airliner.
