Glasgow No Longer The UK's Favourite Airport

Thursday 13th March 2008

New statistics have indicated that Glasgow Airport is no longer the UK's favourite airport as Edinburgh appears to now have more passengers using its services.

Glasgow Airport bosses remain confident however that the airport can regain its crown in the next few months. Glasgow Airport spokesman Donald Morrison said, "We are not remotely despondent. We're working hard to get new routes and continue to invest in a new terminal extension which will open in October and which will make Glasgow Airport much more attractive to passengers."

Passenger figures at Glasgow Airport for February totalled 510,602 which is 1.8% down on February 2007 whilst Edinburgh Airport handled marginally more for the second month in succession.

The fall in passenger numbers is being attributed largely to a 16.3% reduction in charter traffic whilst long haul flights to destinations such as the United Arab Emirates, America and Canada have seen a 7% rise.
