Birmingham Airport Sees Passenger Numbers Increase

Birmingham Airport has seen its passenger numbers increase by an impressive 9.2% compared to the previous year. The figure was a total of 635,052 passengers which was considerably higher than any month of February previously.

The Managing Director of Birmingham Airport Joe Kelly said, "it was a record-breaking February for the airport, which is great news. We are delighted to have seen bmibaby launch its new route to Krakow in Poland recently, which once again increases the choice available to passengers flying from their local airport."

Overall the greatest growth was seen on Irish flights that were up by a huge 23.1% as well as flights to the EU being up by 15.4%. The non-EU flights were also up by 10.3%. Domestic flights increased by 3.9% as well as flights to Asis being up 1.5%.

Destinations that were up were Bratislava up by 568%, Murcia up 229%, Faro in the Algarve up 127% and Geneva up 124% showing an exceptional growth in some areas.

In June flights from Ryanair will operate to Poland which is showing increased interest due to more Polish workers wanting to go home to visit family and friends. These Polish flights will begin on the 18th of June to Gdansk and on the 4th of July to Bydgoszcz.
