Passenger Frustration At Durham Tees Valley Airport
Tuesday 11th March 2008Delays at Durham Tees Valley Airport have frustrated over 200 passengers as they were stuck at the airport for seven hours.
The flight was due to depart at 9.35am on a route to Malaga however technical problems with the aircraft meant a long delay with the fault finally rectified at 4.20pm. An airport spokesperson said “the aircraft was cleaned and ready to cater for passengers when crew arrived and found a problem with the electrics. Globespan offered £4 vouchers and I believe passengers were given the opportunity to have a cigarette. They were also told that for operational reasons they could not allow people to go back and forward.”
Many of the passengers were unhappy about being handed just a £4 voucher each and some were upset to have missed an entire day of their holiday. Some passengers noted that they were checked-in and then only let out on one occasion for a cigarette break whilst the £4 voucher did not cover the costs of food and drink which were high at the airport. One passenger was quoted as saying the experience was "terrible."

Fly Globespan responded to the criticism by explaining that a member of staff had apologised to the passengers and that the technical fault had been unexpected and proved more serious than first estimated. It was also mentioned that in addition to the £4 voucher each passengers was also given complimentary drinks on the flight.
