Thursday 6th March 2008

British Airways announced on Thursday that higher fuel prices and opening costs at the new Heathrow Terminal 5 will affect its profits for 2009.

Predictions were made at the companies investors' day presentation where revenue was predicted to rise by 4% to a minimum of £9.1 billion by the end of the financial year, which end on the 31st of March 2009. According to British Airways they are expecting the cost of fuel to rise by around £450 million which is coupled to an expected £200 million rise in other costs.

The Chief Financial Officer for British Airways Keith Williams had the following to say; "the outlook for next year is consistent with economic slowdown, the impact of increased fuel costs and one-off Terminal 5 transition costs, all of which analysts have already factored in to their expectations.''
