Brits Not Keen On Fortnightly Breaks Anymore
Thursday 28th February 2008The fortnight holiday is dying out it is claimed after Holiday Inn research showed that British holidaymakers are not as keen on longer breaks anymore, this has occured for a multitude of reasons. Their research showed that around half the people they asked said they would not go on a two week holiday this year.
The results showed that on average a British family takes four shorter breaks every year instead of a longer fortnightly holiday. The average amount that is spent on a shorter weekend break is around £349.11. One interesting point is that the survey showed that 24% of Britons cannot go away during the school holiday periods as they are so much more expensive than other time of the year. In addition to this another 24% said that they simply could not afford to go on holiday for more than a few days at a time.
Work proved a problem for many people with one person in five saying that they could not get enough time off work to take a holiday, and one in ten couples said that they could not manage to get the time off together for a holiday. When asked 72% of people said that they felt shorter holidays were a better solution for them.
A spokesperson for Holiday Inn had to following to say about the survey, "Over the past few years, we've seen a huge surge in the number of people booking into Holiday Inns for short breaks. Gone are the bad old days when people would save all year for their annual two week summer holiday at the busiest and most expensive period, we're much too savvy nowadays."
