Crane Collapse Worse Than Originally Thought

Thursday 28th February 2008

A crane collapse at Southampton Port is far worse than suspected as estimates say it will take up to a month to get production back to previous levels.

Southampton Port boss Campbell Mason has predicted a swift repair that would take around 10 days however this has proved to be very much an under-estimation and at minimum will be completed by early-mid March.

Nobody was injured in the collapse however the cause remains a mystery. The Health and Safety Inspectorate are still investigating the causes and hope to issue their findings soon. As a result of the collapse 5 of the 11 cranes in the area are currently out of action meaning that many ships have had to be re-routed.
