BAA Chief Quits After Heathrow Airport Problems

Thursday 28th February 2008

The Chief Executive Officer of BAA Stephen Nelson is to step down from his position after Heathrow Airport delays were highlighted resulting in one airline branding the airport service levels "embarrassingly low." He is resigning after serving nearly two years in the position.

He will be replaced by Colin Matthews, 51 who was the previous CEO of Severn Trent Plc. the water utility group. He will be now tasked with the job that Mr. Nelson was attempting however some have described Mr. Nelson's position as "a man under such enormous pressure resigned to an almost impossible task and without the freedom to negotiate a way forward,'' No doubt Mr. Matthews will find a similar problem when he begins in the post.
