Homeless Man Lived At Gatwick Airport For Three Years

Tuesday 26th February 2008

A former chef who became homeless apparently lived at Gatwick Airport for three years. Anthony Delaney showered, slept and ate at the airport  and managed to avoid being moved on by airport staff despite being stopped 30 times. He has told his lawyers the reason he stayed there was because it was 'clean, dry and warm.'

Delaney rarely left the airport terminal and only appeared to venture out to collect his jobseekers allowance. The court heard that Delaney did not suffer from any mental illness and was not a drug or alcohol user. However the judge Richard Hayward has remanded Delaney in custody until sentencing believing that his desire to return to Gatwick will be much too strong.
