GB Airways Jet In Emergency Landing Drama As Co-Pilot Dies At The Controls

Monday 25th February 2008

A GB Airways Airbus A320 had to perform an emergency landing yesterday as co-pilot Michael Warren, 43 died mid-flight. The flight from Manchester to Cyprus had to be diverted to Istanbul after the death and passengers were put up for the night whilst alternative arrangements were made for them.

First Officer Warren was due to be celebrating his sons first birthday today and is reported to be a Gulf War veteran having flown with the RAF. It has been confirmed by GB Airways that First Officer Warren died of 'natural causes.'

The Captain has been commended by an annonoymous pilot for landing at Istanbul Airport as it is renowned as having excellent medical services and it has been reported that the purser onboard the GB Airways flight administered first aid to First Officer Warren but was unfortunately unable to save him.
