US Airways Considers Legal Action Against BAA
Monday 11th February 2008
US Airways is considering legal action against BAA after the airport authority failed to supply it with the fuel supplies that it requires in order to launch a new service next month from Heathrow Airport.
Recently there has been a revolution in transatlantic flights after the Open Skies regime begun that has opened up flights to full competition on transatlantic routes. However it appears US Airways is the only major airline planning transatlantic routes that has not managed to secure a deal for fuel at the London Airport.
A spokesperson for US Airways said "We are working every possible angle to acquire fuel at Heathrow and have been ever since we announced our start-up last November. This situation continues despite the fact that the BAA and [airlines trade body] IATA have brokered a deal among all of the airlines to allocate fuel among themselves to ensure everyone, including the new entrants to the market, have adequate fuel."
Occording to our sources BAA have asked other airlines to assist and allow some of their fuel quota for US Airways however currently none have been forthcoming.
