Liverpool John Lennon Airport Goes Green With Wind Turbines

Monday 4th February 2008

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has attempted to curb its output of CO2 by installing two 15-metre high wind turbines that are located each side of the airport approach road.

Part of the trial involving the turbines is the effect that they will have on aircraft navigation systems and control tower communications. If the trials are successful then it could pave the way for more turbines at the airport.

The environment manager of Liverpool John Lennon Airport had the following to say about the turbines, "This trial will hopefully demonstrate that turbines can be sited at an operational airport and that others can follow suit. These small yet extremely efficient turbines are proving that wind turbines at airports can make an important contribution to sustainable energy supply."
